How to fix Windows 11 installation problems?

How to fix Windows 11 installation problems

Do not panic if you are experiencing Windows 11 problems with installation through its update tools. A built-in troubleshooter of Windows 10 can help detect a problem. It can reset the Windows Update application and can help to kickstart the installation.

To do this, click on the Start menu, then tap on the COG icon, which will open the setting window. Go to Update and Security then click Troubleshoot to run it. Click ‘Windows Update‘ and follow the instructions and find a solution for the troubleshooter if click ‘Apply this Fix‘.

01. Check Windows 11 system requirements

If the above method does not work to fix your windows 11 problems, you need to reinstall the OS again. And before installing again, you have to pass the system requirements. To install a fresh Windows 11, or to confirm that it runs correctly, your PC matches the following Windows 11 minimum system requirements:

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster with at least two cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or SoC
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Storage: 64GB
  • System Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable
  • TPM: Trusted Platform Module 2.0
  • Graphics Card: DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver
  • Display: 720p, 8-bit per color channel, at least 9-inch diagonal
  • Microsoft Account & Internet Connection: Windows 11 Home requires a Microsoft Account and an active internet connection to complete the initial, first-use setup of the operating system, or when switching a device out of Windows 11 Home in S-mode.

For the complete list of additional, non-required requirements, check Microsoft’s Windows 11 specification page. These are the lowest spaces required to run a brand new Windows 11, but for a better Windows 11 experience, we recommend installing you on a more powerful device. 4GB RAM requirements basically low – we will not recommend trying to run Windows 11 without 8GB RAM.

02. Device compatibility check for Windows 11

In case your system fulfills the above-mentioned criteria, you need to run once a health check to keep your system accessible to install Windows 11. So that you won’t face any kind of windows 11 problems with installation. To run the health checkup you must first download and install Microsoft’s PC Health Check app Once it is installed, run the program

  • Tap on the blue-colored “Check Now” button on the Windows 11 banner
  • If your system is appropriate, you’ll get a pop-up showing “This PC will run Windows 11“

Is Windows 11 won’t run due to TPM?

In case Microsoft’s Windows 11 upgrade checker tells you that your PC isn’t supported but fulfills all the other requirements, then you have to check your BIOS to enable TPM.

Nowadays every modern CPU comes with TPM support. In case you have an Intel CPU then you have to switch to TPM besides you need to check PSP FTPM in the BIOS for AMD. Once done, now you can run Microsoft’s health checker app to ensure the status. This should grant Windows 11 to install.

Windows 11 won't run due to TPM

You can check the status of TPM support on your PC by following the steps below:

  • At first, Press Windows key together with R.
  • When the box displays, type tpm.msc to open the Trusted Platform Module Management window.
  • Search for a sub-window titled TPM Manufacturer Information and check under Specification Version to verify what TPM version your device has.

How to upgrade to Windows 11 without TPM 2.0?

If you try to install Windows 11 without having TPM 2.0 on your PC, then you’ll get an error message that says your PC doesn’t meet Windows 11 system requirements.

If this happens before and you still want to install Windows 11, there is a process to access the TPM requirement. But this should only be done by people who are self-confident about the risks it involves.

This is a complex process, so follow our how-to upgrade to Windows 11 without TPM 2.0 guide for the full rundown, including a look at the risks involved.

01. Free up disk space

As with past operating systems, Windows 11 also requires a specific amount of hard drive space to successfully download and install. If your main hard drive is about to be full, you’ll face problems installing Windows 11.

02. Windows 11 requires 64GB of storage

So, if you fail to install Windows 11, you must check your drive space in Windows Explorer. If it comes out of space, try to type “disk cleanup” in the search box in the taskbar and choose the system disk (usually C: drive).

Click ‘OK’ then check the tick boxes of the files you want to delete. These should be safe to remove but remember you can’t retrieve them once they’re deleted. You’ll be called how much space you’ll save. Click ‘OK’ then ‘Delete files’ to erase the files. If you want to create more space, tap ‘Clean up system files”. Once it is complete, try downloading and installing Windows 11 again.

03. Disable anti-virus software

Antivirus software is definitely helpful to have, but it can cause problems sometimes when trying to install Windows 11.

If you have antivirus software pre-installed, try to disable it before trying to install Windows 11, as that may fix the problem. After the installation is completed you can activate it and use it.

You have to uninstall the software temporarily. Make sure that you reinstall it after the update installs successfully.

How to fix general Windows 11 problems?

How to fix general Windows 11 problems- 2

We are going to cover solutions to a bunch of common Windows 11 problems such as fixing slow internet connections, searching in the Windows 11 start menu, and changing the look of File Explorer. Plus you’ll be able to fill your empty widget, memory issues, fix the unresponsive menu, and more.

Windows 11 problems #1 Is the Internet slow after upgrading to Windows 11?

How to fix general Windows 11 problems - 1

After installing Windows 11, new reports about a lot of people with poor Wi-Fi performance. It implies streaming movies, using VPNs, and general internet browsing may be slow, besides it seems to affect people using the Intel Kailer hardware.

Microsoft is also aware of this problem and will release a Windows 11 cumulative update on October 12 to probably fix the problem. Till then, you may try using an external USB Wi-Fi dongle if you have one.

Windows 11 problems #2 Unable to search in Windows 11 Start Menu?

Currently, there is an issue with the new Start Menu search bar that prevents it from typing. There are other ways to perform a search on Windows 11,  but it is worrisome to change it to bring this habit to the previous OS. And it become one of the most common Windows 11 problems.

Microsoft acknowledges the issue, stating that opening the Run window will enable you to type into the search bar again. You can do this by pressing Windows+R on your keyboard, and when it appears you can shut it as you don’t actually need to type or run anything. Just opening and closing the program seems to resolve the search box problem.

When we can officially expect a patch to correct the bug properly, it is a rather terrible workaround but it’s probably being done more permanently.

Windows 11 problems #3 Does file Explorer still looks like Windows 10?

A lot of people complain that after upgrading to Windows 11, File Explorer still looks similar to Windows 10. This is actually a skin that replicates the old Windows 10 format, but it is unclear why users are getting it as a default. Thankfully, there is a simple way to fix it:

File Explorer still looks like Windows 10
  • At the top of the File Explorer taskbar, choose ‘View’.
  • Select ‘Options’ on the corner right, and head into the next ‘View’.
  • You will now see a list. Find the option that says ‘Launch folder windows in a separate process.’ Make sure the box next to it is unchecked.
  • Apply changes. File Explorer should now initiate a restart.

After File Explorer has restarted you should now see the redesigned layout for Windows 11.

Windows 11 problems #4 Is the Widgets board looks empty?

The Widgets board looks empty

The Widgets board is a needy part of Windows 11 and contains small applications, known as ‘Widgets’ that give you quick access to information, such as events and news in your calendar.

Although, many people have discovered that the Widget board appears empty (it can be brought up by simply swiping from the left-hand side of the screen or pressing Windows + W on your keyboard).

  • To fix these windows 11 problems, tap the icon in the top right-hand corner of the Widgets board, and click on Sign out.
  • Next, sign in again and the Widgets will appear.

Windows 11 problems #5 How to fix Windows 11 memory issues?

Windows 11 memory issues

The memory issue is one of the important Windows 11 problems. There are also some reports that say when users close File Explorer in Windows 11, it remains in RAM, and after some time that can cause memory issues that slow down the OS.

Microsoft hasn’t yet acknowledged this problem, but there is a workaround. Restart File Explorer (in the Task Manager, you’ll see Windows Explorer listed as a process, and if you tap on it, there’s a ‘Restart’ button bottom-right), or simply reboot your PC. In the Task Manager, you can also check how much memory File Explorer is consuming.

Windows 11 problems #6 Is Windows 11 Start menu unresponsive?

Some queries appear in Windows 11 problems that say the Start menus are no longer working after upgrading to Windows 11. If this happens, try restarting your PC. With the Start menu out of action, you can do this by switching to the Windows 11 desktop by pressing the Windows Key + D on your keyboard, then pressing Alt + F4. A window will appear and you can select ‘Restart’ and click ‘OK’.

Windows 11 Start menu is unresponsive

If the Start menu remains not responsive after a restart, then you have to use the DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) and SFC (System File Checker) tools.

  • To do so, press Windows Key together with R to open the Run box, and type in:
cmd
  • Then, press Ctrl + Shift + Enter to open the Command Prompt with Administrator privileges (which you’ll need to run these tools). In the Command Prompt, enter the following:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • This should clean up any corrupt files from the Windows 11 upgrade and it may take some time. Once it has finished, enter the following text into the Command Prompt:
sfc /scannow

Tap Enter on your keyboard and the tool will scan to check all the files are correct. Once done, your Start menu should work again.

If that doesn’t work, some people have found by creating a new user account on the PC, and using that, has fixed the issue. It’s not legal, however, Microsoft will come up with a fix for this Windows 11 problem soon.
